Certain considerations must be taken into account in order to have a positive and fruitful conference or meeting experience with simultaneous interpretation services. Here are some points to consider:
• It is recommended that all participants, regardless of their language, enter the same platform for the conference (Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Webex, GoToMeeting, etc) from a computer. This will help to avoid parallel conversations in the language channels enabled for simultaneous interpretation.
• Access the corresponding language channel using the link provided. It is recommended to access from a portable device such as a smartphone or tablet as you would use a simultaneous interpretation receiver (with earphones), it is essential that prior to joining the session microphone and camera are disabled. In this way, participants can access the main meeting and enable or disable the interpretation audio.
• Speakers should always wear headsets (hands-free), as they offer better sound quality than many PC microphones. PC microphones are overly sensitive and tend to pick up and reproduce background noise that will affect not only the sound of that participant but that of the videoconference in general.
• It is recommended to mute telephones and other devices that could interfere with the videoconference. In general terms, it is recommended to mute the microphone by default and only keep it active when speaking.
• If possible, use a wired Internet connection; if using Wi-Fi or mobile networks, ensure optimal signal levels and stability.
• If there is an interpretation service, it is encouraged to share the presentations and material well in advance with the interpreters so that they can prepare themselves. A previous meeting with the interpreters is recommended to clarify doubts and fine-tune the work dynamics. It is a common practice to sign Non-disclosure or Confidentiality Agreements between the parties.
